Korean Culinary Culture From K-Drama & K-Pop

Korean Drama K-Pop lovers, actresses, actors, and even idols do not escape to show what they eat on the TV screen/drama or in real life. Sometimes they livestream while drinking or eating. What they eat unconsciously affects their audience or fans because they want to try what their idols eat. So, fans or fans flock to buy food eaten by their idols until many travel to South Korea, just to buy authentic South Korean food that their idols have eaten.

Over time, there are many fans and non-fans who are very interested in South Korean cuisine, because many have reviewed South Korean specialties and also have a unique taste and are suitable for most people’s tongues. Due to the large number of people who are interested in South Korean specialties, to the point that many know or are familiar with almost all types of food from the Land of Ginseng.

Kimchi is one type of popular food from Ginseng Country that is very familiar to many people. This is due to the frequent appearance of scenes in dramas or idol live streams that make Kimchi a side dish / 반찬 / side dish that has a sour, savory, fresh, slightly spicy taste, and is very good for health. Kimchi is also a form of culinary culture of South Koreans who love to pair Kimchi with a variety of foods.

In addition, at every birthday celebration there, they do not fail to prepare seaweed soup commonly known as Miyeok-guk (미역국). They believe that by eating the seaweed soup, their life will be prolonged. This is part of the culinary culture that is served during birthday celebrations.

Not only that, but people also love to eat or wrap meat in perilla leaves. South Korean lovers must be very familiar with these perilla leaves, known as 깻잎 (Kkaennip). Usually, people there don’t just eat 1 sheet of perilla leaves, they can eat more than 10 sheets of Kkaennip.

South Koreans themselves like to go on picnics or hikes and they like to bring kimbap as a practical and hassle-free food. Kimbap is a rice roll with a seaweed exterior filled with various types of vegetables, meat, and sauces. This shows how practical the kimbap is for traveling because it is very easy to carry.

Aside from food, South Koreans also sometimes like to serve Makgeolli (막걸리) to drink after or in between their meals. Makgeolli is an alcoholic drink that comes from rice and is usually drunk in a small bowl. Another alcoholic drink that is often drunk is Soju (소주). Soju itself is more popular in Korean dramas whenever they are drunk, under stress, or during meetings with their office mates.

The culinary culture of South Koreans is very popular, and many fans try it and share it on their social media, making it more popular and known to many people from various countries. This popularity has had an impact on many aspects, one of which is the number of restaurants that have opened and serve Korean food in various countries.
